From 4-foot school friends in Perth, to studio partners in Sydney, Palassi Kailis and Tom Derickx formed Kayex as an expression of their creative tastes, embodied in music laced in electronic samples and live instrumentation.
Kailis and Derickx introduce their music with a timeless, fluid and thought provoking aura where the abundance of cross-coveted genres from indie pop to funky electronic notions speak volumes.
The duo debuted their live show at Sydney's Listen Out Festival, supported SG Lewis on his national Australian tour, as well as played for brands such as GQ, Corona Sunsets in Japan, Tommy Hilfiger, Louis Vuitton and Budweiser. In late 2018, Kayex won the Triple J Unearthed competition seeing them perform at Sydney’s Field Day festival on New Years Day 2019. The duo’s next performance is alongside Crooked Colours as they support them on their national Australian tour in May/June 2019.
Exchanging cultural experimentation with creativity, Kayex are true to their emotionally dense intention and as a result have a distinct sound. Kayex’s upcoming single ‘Warrior Games’ contains an uplifting message about facing your fears head on. The single is set to be released in May. Co-written and produced by Lionel Towers (Gypsy & The Cat), and mastered by Mike Marsh (Calvin Harris, Chemical Brothers), ‘Warrior Games’ radiates complete warmth and originality setting a new tone for contemporary music.
